One Night And What You Wish

He paced nervously back and forth in his private study.
”I need you to claim responsibility for Idara’s pregnancy,” he announced to his son.
“What!”
“You heard me.”
“Dad!”
“Name your price.”
“Dad, I can’t believe……”
“Name your price!”
Pause. 15 seconds.
“I….I….I’ll need to sleep over this dad.”
“You will not sleep over anything! I said, name your price!”
“I’m sorry dad but this will have to wait till tomorrow.”
Dotun could read his father’s desperation. Suddenly he felt like Duncan Mighty. He shook his head in disbelief at how quickly the table could turn when you “stumble” on “important” information. He blessed the day, no, the night – that opportune night – when he had caught Idara and his dad in “the act.”

“How dare you tell me to wait?” his father barked, breaking into his thoughts. “In this house, I call the shots…..”
“Well not anymore dad!”
Uneasy silence.
Now helpless, he said, “Alright son, please just say what you want and I’ll do it for you. Anything. Just name it.”
Dotun reeled out: “A university education in the US. Freedom to live my life without your busybody interference. And a well-funded bank account, so that nothing goes wrong.”
His father’s eyes narrowed a bit. “What could possibly go wrong? And how much are we looking at here?”
“I don’t know dad. You call the shots, remember?” The scorn on Dotun’s face was obvious.
His father thought long and hard, before acqueising. “Done. You start in September.”
Dotun smiled. He knew that if his mother ever learnt the truth about the housemaid’s pregnancy,  his father was toast.
There was something else about that smile. It was the realisation that he had just unlocked the door to an endless goldmine.

  3. I love this flash Zee! Its a real game of wits you depicted here and it makes me wonder where Dotun’s father; gets off with his ‘Its either my way or the highway’ philosophy after being found out by his son! I however love how Dotun took back and gained control, in letting him know he’s got absolutely no say, as its readily glaring that he, gets to call the shots! I mean, whatever was he expecting after being caught pants down with his ‘paws’ in the cookie jar?! Hmf! 😂

Plus, these two jokers must really think they’ve got this whole thing locked down and I say the maid holds all the aces and will deal ’em in the fullness of time when she gives birth! A certain power will come upon her, when it dawns on her that she’s more or less equals with the Lady of the Manor, seeing as they’re ‘eating’ from the same pot! Its just what it is and she wouldn’t wanna be relegated to the background! She’d blow the whistle on the father of her child, to spite his wife and take her ‘rightful’ place! So Dotun shouldn’t really get too comfy, cause she who I shall refer to as the ‘Master of the game’; will sooner than later be unraveled and unleashed; and that Honeycomb, wouldn’t be pretty! Nuh-uh! 👿😆
They’re both in for a rude shock when they discover just how impossible it is, to unring a bell! Better not to set the bell a-jingling in the first place! 😈😆

Nice one Zee, excellent plot and pretty hilarious too! 👍😄

    • Thank you sis. This is a fantastic go at preemption, to say the least. And you’re right. The ‘gbege’ has only just begun.☺ You know initially it was supposed to be just one small piece of flash but with Amity’s prompting and other comments thereafter, who knows, there just might be something. …☺

      • The sky’s only but the beginning, the possibilities are endless! Whatever you do decide to do in the long run will be fantastic am sure! Some writers may leave it as it is and allow for the imaginations of their audience to roam wild and free, while some others may give continuation a go! So long as your plot gets better and believable with each telling, and you don’t end up making a muddle outta it; then I say go for it! You’ve absolutely nothing to lose! Bring. It. On! 😄😉✌

  5. If there’s anything good that comes out of blackmail. It’s that nothing good has ever come out of it.
Waiting in anticipation to read more.
