The Floodgates

Born of saturation – a heaviness
That saddled the heart of heaven
The weight from months of toil
Of fury, erstwhile unimagined
Now yielding, by instalment
A tear here, two drops there
A pitter-patter, a rushed endeavor
The deafening applause
Unrelenting performance
Exhausted reserves?
A lull, a sweeping breeze, a hush
A look out, then I’m wonderstruck
For saturation – a fullness beyond satiety
A belch
The floodgates of heaven opened
And earth drank beyond its fill
We’re all afloat
For good or for bad

Thank you sire for giving me the punch πŸ‘Š

  1. This right here! Your poems are magical. There’s some feeling to it– it just always reads right. I love this poem, and how you aptly portrayed the incidence of a flood.

I love your mind, and what comes from it ma’am.

    Welldone! ❀

      • oh Zee, I love plain…I hated poetry because of its complexity and the wracking of brain to decipher it’s meaning…why do you write to communicate with people and they find it difficult to get what you say?
and that is why I do not consider myself a poet, cos, my poems are plain and easy to understand…
That is what I meant to say…that this poem is really good, especially, as it is plain and easy to grasp, and to feel what you want us to feel…

  2. Love the flow of words describing the word ‘Floodgates’, and the systematic yet dramatic sequence of events leading up to the crescendo and terminating at ‘For good or bad’! I laud your efforts on this one Zee, keep it coming! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

    • Na wa o! See this great ladies o! Putting greatness aside to mention me in the comment, (#blushing) … Yes, I am serious business, send in the money already! πŸ˜‰

Zika’s rhythm is something I appreciate, truly. Then, her landing too, as noticed in this poem and appreciated by our lovely Yemie.
Now, Yemie, don’t you think we should also celebrate you like how you are celebrating others? But walahi, this grammar doesn’t have Part 2! Choi! Everywhere we go, you Soyinkarise the comment tray with poetry that leaves me marveling. Can’t you see that if you were to put this into lines and stanzas, they can stand?

      Consider this now, a poem:

      FLOOD

      The flow
      Systematic yet dramatic
      Sequence, events, crescendo
      Termination
      For good or bad…

Bonjour Ziks! While the numbers took you away – I think – or whatever nocturnal pleasure, we had some long talk here. You know how we roll… πŸ™‚ But I am sure even in whatever zaniness, we meant every word. You are mighty welcome but thanks, for being you, and we bless the Lord for endowing in you such fast fingers that let your heart pulsate in your hands through the powerful rhythm you pour…

May this day bring you smiles and words bless you each moment.
